doesn't realize the beauty in what he has until it's gone. doesn't realize how much it mattered and how much he wanted/needed it, as represented with his relationship w guts.

no but fr i was SO obsessed with him. i was SO OBSESSED i dyed my hair platinum white and literally believed i WAS griffith for a solid 6 months.

NEVER EXCUSING WHAT HE DID TO CASCA!! ever. BUT i rationalize it by separating who he was during the golden-age period with who he was when he chose to become femto. that mental decline changed him completely, which i believe to be represented in his physical transformation which occured as he became femto.

HOWEVER, i empathize with, understand, and relate to his decision to sacrifice his loved ones for his goals vie the eclipse. if presented with the same choice of either living in a world unable to achieve my dreams OR sacrificing all my friends and family in return for getting my dreams and goals fulfilled as well as transforming into my ideal perfect body, i would likely choose the latter. i believe most other people would too, realistically.

initially wanted acceptance from his family, from his dad, so much so that his perceived rejection hurt him so much more and hit so much harder. this is what ended up causing him to break away and oppose his father—that, and he realized that his father was no longer a person he could reason with. still carried the guilt of separating and killing his father, even though he knew it was the right thing to do

heaaavy parental issues. particularly with how the parent he was closer to died first, leaving him alone.

abandonment issues.

pushes away his friends and creates his own worst fear. seen spiraling when his friends left him alone in his mansion. and yet he’s never good at communicating his love to them when they’re with him.

is usually grouchy or complains when he really is happy. acts annoyed when asked how he’s feeling even if he’s enjoying himself. sooo many defense mechanisms

...the twins incident. similar experiences.

betrayed by those he trusts most, again and again. learns not to trust anyone, so he only ends up trusting the wrong person. this pattern is never ending.

is the very thing he despises (by being part vampire).

sees his parents in himself in all the worst ways. tried everything to avoid it, but ends up creating his worst fear by doing so.

i relate to lelouch primarily for his perfectionistic attitude that causes him to act as if everything is up to him. he believes that he is the only one who can do things right and get perfect results. obsessed with control to his deficit, his brilliance in strategy and logic-based thinking has given him the upper edge on his opponents and caused him to have too much confidence in his abilities. he is too caught up balancing his goals upon his precarious plans and running from his past to actually reflect on his actions. when things inevitably spiral out of control, he only recognizes it when it’s too late to change his ways. saying “the ends justify the means” is just a way for him to keep running past the pain he feels and the guilt he is accumulating from his actions.
